The following is a brief summary of the updates from the previous edition.
Definitions - The definition of measuring was moved from law 23. The definition of rink of play was amended.
New laws
There are still 60 laws, but two new clauses have been included regarding the deliberate displacement of a bowl in its original course or at rest. These are laws 37.1.3 and 37.1.5.3. A detailed explanation of these changes is included in the link below.
WB Laws Committee Clarification on Law 37.1
Some other additions were as follows:
5.1 Trial ends & 29.3 Changing bowls - If an interrupted game is moved between a grass green and a synthetic green (on the same day), players can change their bowls and trial ends may be permitted.
13 Possession of the rink - There has always been a warning and a subsequent penalty if a player delivers a bowl before the previous bowl has come to rest. This was moved from law 11.2.2 to law 13.3.
26.3 Knockout play - A game is completed once it becomes impossible for one opponent to score enough shots to win the game.
29.1.4 Clarification about continuing play in the same order after 2 bowls have been played in the wrong order.
42.2 The marker's duties include centering the mat.
54 Measuring equipment & 57.1 Domestic regulations - MNAs can approve a domestic regulation regarding types of measuring equipment that may be used by umpires (in addition to those already listed).
Other changes
Many of the other changes to the laws can be referred to as general housekeeping. Laws 32 & 33 were reversed. Some clauses - such as playing with bowls from the same set - were moved closer to the beginning.
BCB has included all 5 Domestic regulations at the end of the Appendices and some of these DRs were amended.
The Index has been updated.
