Del Manor North York Tournament Date: July 17, 2022 Tournament Format: Mixed Triples Tournament Notes and Results: This was the first mixed trips tournament for 2022. It was played on the newly restored grass greens. We had 8 very competitive teams battling for first place. We played 3x12 ends and the winners were from Brampton Lawn Bowling Club. Frank Dinardo, (skip) Sandy Mckenzie (vice) and, Doreen Semple (lead). The weather was cloudy with some sunny patches, (21°C) it was very comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast, raisin bread, muffins coffee, and, tea. After the second game, all players came in for ice cream. The game ended at 4:15 pm, the prizes were given out and everybody left by about 5:00 pm. All in all, it was a very good day. Looking forward to next year. Willowdale LBC would like, to have more teams next year. Please look up the date in the, 2023, OLBA Annual and come and enjoy the first Mixed Tournament at Willowdale LBC. Jack Siboni and Bill Donald Tournament Date: October 5, 2019 Tournament Format: Open Triples Tournament Notes and Results: This was the last open tournament for 2019. It was played on the artificial green (the carpet). We had 12 very competitive teams battling for first place. We played 3x12 ends and the winners were from Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club. Mark Bernstein, (skip) Hossein Zhian (vice) and Jack Siboni (lead). The weather was a bit cool, (Bill Donald provided hand warmers for all bowlers) but the sun came-up once in a while to make it very comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast, Swiss rolls, banana cake, raisin bread, muffins coffee and tea. During the first game Bill Donald made hot chocolate drink and some bowlers served themselves. After the second game all players came in for apple, cherry, and blueberry pie with ice cream. The game ended at 4:15pm, the prizes were given out and everybody left by about 5:15pm. All in all it was a very good day. Looking forward for next year. Bill and I would like to have a full house (16 teams) next year. Please look up the date in the 2020 Annual and come and enjoy the last open Willowdale tournament on the carpet. Barry Batson Carpentry Tournament Date: September 29, 2019 Tournament Format: Novice Mixed triples Tournament Results: KLBC hosted its final tournament of the year on Sunday. It was sponsored by Barry Batson Carpentry and featured 14 teams from a variety of clubs...we had teams from Ottawa, Prescott, and Iroquois in the east to Trenton, Belleville, and Campbellford in the west. Each team had to have at least one novice ["N"] player, and the skip *had* to be a novice. The winners were: 1st 3--game winner: Pierre Vanderhout [N], Curtis Wartman [N], and Ursula Cooney. [Kingston] 2nd 3-game winner: John Dundas [N], Cathy Archer Maher [N], and Maureen Butler. [Kingston] High 2-game winner: Louise Warr [N], Charlie Rowbotham, and Harry McMurter. Elsie Gibson Estate Tournament Date: September 28, 2019 Tournament Format: Women Triples Tournament Results: Winners were, Gloria Cheung, Laila Hassan, and Chrystal Shephard from Willowdale LBC. This tournament is in memory of Elsie Gibson, a long time member of Willowdale LBC. It started with a lovely breakfast of raisin bread, muffins apple strudel coffee and tea. After the first game the bowlers sat down to a lunch which included, roast chicken, potatoes wedges, kale and western salads, buttered buns, coffee tea and orange punch. Every lady enjoyed it very much. Following the second game, they came in for ice cream with fruit, wafers, coffee tea and lemonade. After the third game the results were announced and prizes and flowers were presented. All-in-all it was a fantastic tournament and everyone enjoyed it. Looking forward to next year. Tournament Sponsor: Tournament Date: September 22, 2019 Tournament Format: Open Triples Tournament results: The winners of this tournament were Chrystal Shephard, Gloria Cheung and Elizabeth Cormack from Willowdale LBC. This tournament is played on the artificial green (we call it the carpet). We had 12 teams competing in this tournament. The weather was a very sunny and warm 25°C but it got quite windy in the afternoon and it affected the bowling just a bit. You had to considere the wind direction and it was a bit tricky. Everyone had a good time. |
